Release and degradation of environmental DNA and RNA in a marine system

“Release and degradation of environmental DNA and RNA in a marine system” – a paper by Susie Wood and colleagues presents the results of an aquarium experimental study, where eDNA and eRNA shedding rates and degradation were investigated for two marine invasive species. This research contributes to better understanding of eDNA and eRNA fate in marine waters, interpreting their positive signal in the context of marine biosecurity surveillance and parametrising a particle tracking model to predict areas where molecular signals from invasive source populations can be detected.
